Las Torres de Cotillas will contribute its bit in the reforestation work of the Portuguese municipality of Tabua, which last summer suffered the devastating consequences of the fire.
And it will do with the 5,000 'balls of life' developed in the workshop held by the Association for the Integration of People with Disabilities (CEOM) during one of the days of the European project 'Do U Sport', in which both localities are partners.
"The hiking day of May 6 that we developed in our town had some environmental workshops where participants created these 'balls of life' with the method of natural farming, known as 'nendo dango' or 'seed bombs', effective in the recovery of natural spaces with autochthonous seeds of white broom, "explains the mayor, Isabel María Zapata.
Some 'balls of life' that have been delivered today, Tuesday, July 24, to the local company 'Transportes Fuentes', which collaborates with the cause, making them arrive by road to the Portuguese town.
European project
The European project 'Do-U-Sport' is part of the 'Erasmus +' program and its main objective is to explore the role of local authorities in the promotion of sport as an activity for all, free of barriers.
In this proposal, which began in January 2017 and will last until next December, the Consistory Torreño collaborates with the municipalities of Tábua (Portugal) and Mielec (Poland) and has a budget of almost 31,500 euros, subsidized almost 75 % by the European Commission.
"Consolidating the role of local authorities in promoting sports for all, increasing the number of people and organizations involved in sports activities at the local level or promoting a deeper understanding of how sports are seen and experienced in the municipalities are other of the objectives of this project that is already underway ", explains the Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Ginés Pérez.
