Tribute Torreño to the passion brother (25/03/2019)

Beyond what you can pontificate the dictionary to the use or the statutes of any brotherhood, a brother who sets an example is one who gives his best to improve, magnify the great and multitudinous event in which it occurs, Holy Week as such, putting in its most intense value the conditions to make processional parades, in addition to majesty, meaning and reborn life, an excellent catechism of solemnity, recollection and above all message of Christian humanism in full letter.

The work of a model brother goes through the year-to-year integration of the full meaning of a unique Holy Week in the social field from which emanates its human component of penitents, Nazarenes, bearers, ... laden with generosity, will, sincere devotion, ..., that is, in the public life of the municipality and collaborate in every way to offer the public the perception that deserves a display of message of human perfection like the one that covers the passionate manifestations in the streets.

First of all does not enter the magister cofrade neglecting that approach to the people that Holy Week must have because the vein of the people, men and women are those who spread by the vital nerve of the locality the symbolism of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Sir.

The social relevance of the brotherhoods of Torrena in the municipality must remain present, being a reality in facets as well as economic engine of the productive activity of the town showing the strength, the strength of some people who make the extraordinary emotion, of the most deep and ancient tradition, scene of what we are able to move and do in this Villa.

And in this sense the people of that brotherhood microcosm that reflect in their dedication, in their vitalism without pause the work, the push of the faith of a whole people that channels in Holy Week huge doses of feeling, art, history, are legion language from the heart in praise of prayer.

I refer to men and women with whom we are not the few who live side by side the intrigue of preparing at the smallest detail some exquisite parades where thrones and images rocked to the beat of brothers mark the palpitation of the popular religiosity of Las Torres de Cotillas .

In short, torreños that represent, as nobody else, the character of confrere making faith and people, devotion and citizen participation.

Exemplary Torreños, in all orders of the vine, brothers cataloged in the eyes of their neighbors for how much and good they do in feeling of faithful tradition.

And that category is the one that last Saturday, March 23, the Cabildo came to recognize, to pay tribute, and did it in those references of the world cofrade Torreño, of those seven presidents (Manuel Fernández Vicente, Pedro Verdú Fernández, Andrés Jiménez Dólera, Bernardino Sánchez Gil, Juan Pérez López, Miguel Bermúdez Soler and José Sánchez Vidal) who had the passionate governing institution in five decades of activity, seven men who have spearheaded what the brotherhoods have done and continue to do. a Holy Week, ours, which is a beautiful expression of faith, of a faith that becomes art, silence, procession, sequence of penitents and crowds contemplating the passage of God through the streets and their lives.

On March 23, homage was paid to seven men who, from their position at the head of the Cabildo de Cofradías, have channeled that overflowing force of passion, of faith that spreads like immense, massive, multitudinous showcase of a believing soul through the Torrena streets .

In short, a culture modeled by generations of men and women who make a public and participatory profession of faith and pride in belonging to a people that knows how to vibrate like no other.

This weekend we recognized the work of seven men who have put their shoulders together to make a Holy Week a reality that projects us to the Region as a municipality with a clear flavor and love for the well-done, with inner and public feeling and strength. equal parts.

And with this tribute, a semblance of conflicting feelings and emotions was made before history.

And it is that such a date as today but 50 years ago was born the Superior Union of Brotherhoods, original name of the current Cabildo Torreño, an institution whose trajectory starts in the prolegomena of the Holy Week of 1969, year in which the processions of the Passion , Death and Resurrection of Christ ran through the streets Mayor, Reyes Católicos, Campo and Mula.

It is so five decades ago started an entity that would integrate the Passionist brotherhoods of the town - in those origins five were the integrating Brotherhoods (Our Father Jesus Nazareno and Santo Entierro de Cristo, San Juan Evangelista, Virgen de los Dolores, Santa Verónica Woman and Santísimo Christ of the Fall and Santísimo Christ Crucified) -.

In front of what at that time -and until the 80s- it would be called Superior Union of Brotherhoods would be chosen unanimously Manuel Fernández Vicente presiding over a team that would count as Treasurer with Pedro Verdú Fernández and as Mayordomos to Antonio Contreras Balsalobre (on behalf of the Brotherhood of St. John the Evangelist), Juan Antonio Fernández Balanza (Santísimo Cristo Crucificado), Catalina Férez Rosauro (Virgin of Sorrows), Antonio Contreras Jiménez (Our Father Jesus Nazareno and Santo Entierro de Cristo) and Joaquín Ruiz García (Holy Woman Veronica and Holy Christ of the Fall).

In subsequent dates the Cabildo would incorporate three new confraternities to its Board of Directors, those of the Risen Christ and Saint Peter and Our Lady of Mercy - both founded in 1980 - and that of the Holy Christ of Flagellation, created ten years later.

The balance that the Cabildo Superior de Cofradías of Las Torres de Cotillas (Murcia) has offered since its foundation is immense and worthy of review, undertaking in this fifty-year execution several plans of action.

From the preservation, promotion and enlargement of Holy Week to the planning / organization of the work of the different brotherhoods for the maintenance and growth of their artistic and human heritage (as show buttons, the restoration and incorporation of new sizes and thrones and the growing participation of young people in the proper development and presence in processional parades) through the regulation of their internal functioning thanks to statutes agreed to that effect.

The efforts of this Cabildo to project the local Holy Week at the highest level do not remain here.

The mission of the highest Passionist institution, Torrena, has also achieved the objective of realizing initiatives of great significance and reference even in the context of our Region.

With constructive spirit, the Cabildo Superior de Cofradías of Las Torres de Cotillas (Murcia) has spurred consciences, encouragement and purpose in favor of our religious parades uniting a people.

With this philosophy, the children's procession of Holy Week was launched in 2017, which will entail this commitment to involve young generations from the grassroots in what is a relay, a new sap as a key to continuity, the survival of the great event of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Lord shown as visual catechism in the streets of our municipality.

No less vigilance would the Cabildo create something exceptional, pioneering, unique in our land in Murcia such as the Sample of Dioramas (Models) of the Passion of Christ, located on the ground floor of what used to be the Consistorial House until 2011and being a savior of virtuosity in detail in terms of passages, volumes and figures of the New Testament, work of our countryman and brother since his childhood José Antonio Egea Sandoval, is today a candidate for the declaration of Cultural Interest granted by the regional government.

Another of the dreams achieved by the Cabildo is its Permanent Exposition of Holy Week Torrena located also in the ground floor of its headquarters, the aforementioned building of the old Town Hall, itself a Museum that collects the trace, the memories and the artistic elements , ornamental and of great ethnographic and, of course, sentimental charge of everything that represents a symbol of the eight local passionary brotherhoods.

The institutionalization of the figures of the Crier of the Holy Week and the Nazarene of the Year -from 1983 the first distinction, and from a year after the second-, the creation in 2017 of the title of Cofrade de Honor, the annual offering to the Monument to the Nazareno - sculpted in 2015 by the Murcian image maker Jesús Calero - in homage to the absent brothers, the boost to the Tamborada, the edition and distribution of the poster announcing Holy Week by homes, commercial establishments, companies and entities of the municipality, the call also all the years of the drawing competition to design the poster that advertises the children's procession and in which a large number of students up to 16 years of age compete, as well as in painting and handicraft contests, the cohabitation days, programming of the Meetings-Festivals of Passionate Bands from all over the Region, participation in the Cavalcade of the Magi with the fi

of the Angel of the Annunciation, the transfer of the Patron Saint of La Salceda from her Hermitage of the Coto to the urban area within the framework of the Major Festivals in her honor and the dissemination of the parades in the regional media and even national are other milestones that count as lasting achievements of half a century of a Cabildo that, prepared to face the challenges of the immediate future with sufficient doses of realism and vitality, intends to refloat in all its fullness flagship and Encouragement flag of new batches of young people his first creation and courtship as it comes to be the legendary Tercio de Romanos.

Congratulations for those golden weddings of the Cabildo Superior de Cofradías of Las Torres de Cotillas.
