The full City Council of Las Torres de Cotillas approved on Monday, March 25, the start of the file for the concession of public domain for the construction and management of a residence for the elderly in the municipality.

This will be located on a municipal property plot of almost 7,000 m2, located next to the Onofre Fernández Verdú municipal soccer field.

In Las Torres de Cotillas there are currently 556 people assessed with grade 2 and 3 dependency who could request the provision of residential care in this center, at a time when the municipality does not currently have any of these characteristics.

Over 60 years

According to the municipal report that endorses the need for such facilities in Las Torres de Cotillas, its possible beneficiaries are people over 60 who live alone.

Currently the City Council provides two free services in the municipality that can give an idea of ​​how many people meet this profile: the municipal tele-assistance has 101 users (70 living alone) and home help has 67 users (of which 35 live alone).

With the numbers in hand, of the 22,283 inhabitants of the town, 4,862 are over 60 (21.8%) and the demographic projection can bring that population in the coming years to more than 7,500 people.

The nursing homes are centers that offer comprehensive care and permanent housing to seniors, both those who can stand on their own and those who need help to carry out their daily activities.
