The Department of Consumption advises the Torreños how to enjoy a responsible vacation (16/07/2019)

The Consumer Council of Las Torres de Cotillas, through the Municipal Office of Consumer Information (OMIC), has launched the information campaign "Inform yourself and enjoy a responsible vacation."

"It is a practical tool, with useful and simple recommendations, which aims to avoid shocks when it comes to enjoying leisure time in the summer period", explains the councilor of the area, María de los Ángeles Fernández Fernández.

Hiring a trip, renting a car, going shopping, traveling abroad, going to the beach or to the pool are some of the situations that can raise doubts about how our rights as consumers should be protected.

"The campaign makes available to citizens the necessary information so that all these activities are carried out with the necessary guarantees," says the coordinator of the OMIC, Francisco Juan Sánchez, who recalls that this service is available in person to answer questions at the City Council and on the telephone 968.623.918 from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 1 pm, and at mailomiclastorresdecotillas@gmail.com.

Attentive to travel

The first recommendations refer to the contracting of trips, emphasizing that if the purchase is made through an agency, it must be verified that it is adhered to the arbitration system of consumption and that it has the corresponding distinctive.

"In addition, we must request the program of the trip and all the information of the contract detailed and in writing," says the mayor, who recalls that "if we travel abroad we have the right to have all the information about the final price of the ticket clearly and precise. "

In addition, a mobile application, called "Passenger rights" ("Your rights as a passenger") is available on different download platforms, which provides clear and concise information, allowing you to easily locate each problem and the different options available to you.

The campaign also informs about our rights as passengers of means of transport such as plane, train, boat, bus ... For example, we must know that when there is a delay (of at least one hour, 90 minutes or two hours depending of the selected means of transport) or the cancellation of the service we can cancel the trip and ask for the refund of the amount.

"We can also request transport to the final destination under similar conditions or by alternative means, as soon as possible and without additional cost," explains the head of the OMIC Torrena.

If what we want is to rent a vehicle, before signing the contract we must know its exact model and condition, economic conditions, insurance and the policy that is followed with fuel.

Shopping, beaches and pools, claims ...

As for purchases, the campaign offers advice on the importance of keeping the purchase ticket, also in periods of sales;

plan expenses and bet on responsible consumption;

verify the return policy;

and for online purchases, where we have the same rights and 14 days to cancel the purchase made.

This initiative also raises advice about swimming pools and swimming pools in which, among other issues, it informs that sunglasses and toys have to bear the CE mark.

In addition, it is advisable to check that the pool has expert personnel in rescue and lifeguard, extreme precautions in slides and trampolines, avoid sun exposure between 12 and 16 hours and apply creams with the appropriate sun protection factor.

"Finally, we must bear in mind that if we are not satisfied with the product or service that we hire, we can assert our rights and use the claim forms," the councilor warns.

It must be remembered that the claim can be presented in the consumer services of the autonomous communities or in the OMICs, in the Associations of Consumers and Users, as well as in the Consumer Arbitration Boards. "If we reside in Spain, but we want to claim against a company from another member country of the EU, Norway and Iceland, we can do it through the European Consumer Center ", states Francisco Juan Sánchez.
