The 'Bicycle Day', which is celebrated every year at the patron festivities of Las Torres de Cotillas that take place in August, will be called Antonio Sarabia.
This was unanimously agreed by the Torreño municipal plenary, which thus wanted to pay tribute to the great work of this promoter of cycling both in the town and in the region of Murcia, sadly died a few days ago.
"We all considered Antonio a great person, with a big heart, and he was very dear to all of us," says Mayor Isabel María Zapata, who recalls that "he was especially devoted to this day, which hundreds of neighbors of all ages enjoy. for many, many years. "
An event, in whose organization it collaborated with the local City Council, where small, big and older take out their bicycles, decorate them and many disguise themselves to carry out a family, playful and convivial journey.
"In addition, Antonio donated many of the gifts that were raffled in the raffle that is held at the end of the bike route," says the Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports Ginés Pérez.
A life dedicated to cycling
Antonio Sarabia dedicated all his life to his passion, the bicycle.
He was a cyclist, mechanic, salesman, organizer of races and events, owner of'Ciclos Sarabia ', sponsor of several cycling teams and, without a doubt, he was one of the great motors of cycling in Murcia.
"In our municipality he has always been a great promoter of sport and a collaborator of multiple activities, organizer and promoter of schools and bicycle races", highlights Zapata.
