The 'Juan Baños National Amateur Theater Competition' from Las Torres de Cotillas is getting bigger.
Today, Friday, September 21, has been presented its seventh edition, in an act chaired by the mayor, Isabel María Zapata, the Councilor for Culture, Pedro Cabrera, and the director of the Torreño theater group 'Tejuba', Joaquín Cantero.
"Four amateur companies will compete for the 2,000 euros in prizes that have been set for this edition", explains Zapata, who recalls that the works in competition will be staged during the month of October at the House of Culture 'Pedro Serna'.
The works in competition, which will have an entry of 3 euros and will be performed at 9:00 pm, will be the following: on October 6, the company 'Expresando' (Madrid) will stage 'Tartufo';
On October 13 'Maru-JASP' (Alcalá de Henares) will represent 'If something can happen, even if it seems improbable, it ends up happening inevitably';
on October 20 the 'Cía.
Teatro en Construcción '(Elche) will take to the stage' Huanita ';
and will close 'Almagra Teatro (Mula) with the representation of' Baldosas' on October 27.
The closing of this theatrical contest for amateur groups from all over Spain will take place on Saturday, November 10, at an evening with free admission in which the prizes will be awarded to the best.
"In addition, our 'Tejuba' will represent the work 'Bajar al moro' as an artistic culmination to the contest," says Cabrera.
Important prizes
The prizes set by the organization amount to about 2,000 euros and will be distributed as follows: 1,000 euros and trophy for the best show;
200 euros and trophy for the best actor and actress;
100 euros and trophy for the best address;
and 100 euros and trophy for the best actress and supporting actor.
"We are sure that, as every year, the level of the participating companies will be very high and the public will enjoy the best amateur theater that can be seen today in Spain," says Mayor Torrena.
