Participatory budgets 2019 receive 241 popular proposals (21/02/2019)

The 2019 participatory budgets of Las Torres de Cotillas have received a total of 241 popular proposals, which were worked on Wednesday, February 20, in a prioritization session held in the neighborhood center of La Florida.

"The residents of our municipality have presented 79 proposals on programs and 162 on financially sustainable investments", explains the mayor, Isabel María Zapata, who points out that the objective of the day yesterday was to reduce them to 30 and 60 respectively.

To this end, several working groups were established in which the proposals were evaluated according to various criteria and in which nearly 40 people participated who volunteered during the information sessions held as the beginning of this process.

"Now that selection will go to municipal staff, who must estimate its technical and economic viability," says the councilor.

Departure of 350,000 euros

The participatory budgeting process 2019, which began on January 31 and is open to the entire population over 16 years, has 350,000 euros allocated to activities and / or financially sustainable investments.

These funds will be distributed as follows: two items of at least 10,000 euros for both the area of ​​women and equality for the elderly, another of a minimum of 15,000 euros for the area of ​​people with diversity and another more than 30,000 euros at least for districts.

In addition, a maximum of 285,000 euros of free designation will be allocated.

After several information sessions in neighborhoods, districts and sectors with the neighbors of the municipality, the deadline for proposals was opened, which had to fulfill six requirements: that can be executed in 2019, that is municipal competence, that is legally and technically viable, that does not exceed the amount of 100,000 euros, which at present is not being executed and which is of general interest.

Next steps

After the evaluation of the municipal technicians of the screened ideas, at the end of March the proposals that will go to the vote on April 1 will be publicized.

Finally, on April 8 there will be a day of citizen participation to publicize the chosen projects.

"We continue with our intention to promote citizen participation to improve the quality of decision-making at the local level," says Zapata, who notes that for this project has the supervision of the research team of the University of Murcia.

"We want to increase citizens' knowledge of decision-making processes at the local level, elaborating a more effective and inclusive municipal budget", explains the mayor, who emphasizes that another objective is to integrate the participation of specific, more vulnerable sectors of the population. the population.
