The blood donation campaign that was developed on Tuesday December 3 by the City Council of Las Torres de Cotillas and the Regional Hemodonation Center of the Region of Murcia in the Consistory itself was a success.
About 60 people were interested in contributing their grain of sand - the total donation is about 450 ml - to this cause of vital importance for current healthcare, on a day that was open to municipal workers and citizens in general.
"A total of 59 attentions have been made to people interested in donating. Of these, 24 attended for the first time, thus becoming new donors. Finally, a total of 39 donations have been counted," explains the mayor, Joaquín Vela Fernández, also Physician by profession.
"Without these altruistic gestures it would be almost impossible for current medicine to perform such delicate and important tasks as surgeries, transplants, hematological, oncological treatments ...", highlights the first mayor, who also wanted to donate.
In addition, those people who have not been able to attend that appointment have two more days in the health center to do so, provided they are provided with the DNI: Wednesday 11 and Wednesday 18 December, both from 17 to 21 hours.
Who can donate?
It should be remembered that all those people between 18 and 65 years who weigh more than 50 kilos can be donors, not being sick on the day of donation and in the case of women not being pregnant or breastfeeding.
In addition, you cannot go on an empty stomach and there is a maximum number of donations per year: four for men and three for women.
Although popular belief indicates otherwise, blood can also be donated: even if the person has suffered from type A hepatitis, if it was before the age of 10;
if you are a woman and you take contraceptives or you are in your period;
if you are diabetic (and no insulin is used =) or you have high blood pressure and it is controlled.
