Authorized for the contract to expand the 'San José' school, which will benefit 500 students (27/12/2019)

The expansion of the 'San José' school in Las Torres de Cotillas, which will benefit about 500 students, is already closer.

The regional government has authorized, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the contract for expansion of the center, whose budget amounts to 1,337,679 euros and will be financed at 80% with ERDF funds.

"The Primary area will be expanded on the ground floor and first floor as a continuation of the existing building, and the Children's area will be expanded in an annexed and independent ground floor building," explains the Councilor for Education, Rafael Martínez García, who notes that this project will be carried out on a plot of about 2,000 square meters of municipal ownership and that the City Council is also studying actions attached to the school.

In the Primary area, four classrooms will be built for daily classes, another for computer science, a music classroom, a library, spaces for tutorials, support and guidance, and AMPA, a physiotherapy room, toilets and a warehouse.

In addition, two classrooms, toilets and a multipurpose classroom will be built in the Children's area, and the playground of both areas will be conditioned.

Improve the situation

Today the center has a double line in all its courses, with the Primary Education cycles separated in different buildings.

Students from 3rd to 6th grade who receive their classes in the 'San José II' and attend the dining room must walk daily to the old center to use it, accompanied by their monitors and crossing several busy streets on foot.

In addition, there are teachers who teach in the two buildings, which complicates the coordination of teachers and involves a double cost of material resources.

"With this extension we will solve a historical problem of this educational community and we are working to make it effective as soon as possible and all its members have the benefits and comforts of a modern center," said Mayor Torreño, Joaquín Vela Fernández.
