COVID | This coming weekend Las Torres de Cotillas will be the national capital of badminton in senior category, as it will host the Spanish championship of this modality.
A total of 148 athletes (101 men and 47 women) between the ages of 30 and 74 from 62 clubs throughout the country will gather in this tournament organized by the Spanish Badminton Federation. The tournament was presented today, Wednesday, December 2, at the local City Council, in an act chaired by the Torreño mayor, Joaquín Vela Fernández, the president of the Badminton Federation of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Caparrós Manzano, and the Councilor for Health and Sports, Verónica Morcillo De La Torre.
"It is the highest and most prestigious scoring event on the official calendar of this 2020 mini-season.
It is the second time that Las Torres de Cotillas hosts this national championship, after the 2006 edition," explains the mayor, who thanked the attendance of the national deputy and spokesman for the Commission of Culture and Sports of the Congress of Deputies, Juan Luis SotoBurillo. This championship will be held on December 5, 6 and 7 in the municipal pavilion "Mireia Belmonte", with a strict anti-COVID security protocol that will not allow public access.
"We regret that the spectators cannot enjoy the high level of this tournament, but in this pandemic situation we must put the safety of the population first," says the local mayor, who wanted to "wish all the luck in the world to the 13 participants of The Torres de Cotillas ".
