The City of Las Torres de Cotillas has been recognized in the ninth edition of the 'Sustainable Development Awards' with which the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment highlights the commitment of companies and institutions to the defense of the environment.
The consistory Torreño has been awarded in the category of environmental education initiatives at the municipal level for its project 'Good urban environmental practices'.
"This initiative has completed its fifth edition, is aimed at 5th grade schoolchildren and about 250 students participate each year," explains the councilor for Environment, Inmaculada Fernández, who points out that these are educational actions to promote among the school population the acquisition of values, knowledge and practices that enable them to act and make decisions before future problems of urban behavior.
Various stages
The project 'Good urban environmental practices' consists of three stages.
The first is a test of environmental sustainability, where students analyze their respect and care for the environment and then evaluate the results.
Then, the children are asked to make an analysis of the noise they suffer in their life, in order to make them aware of the levels of hearing impacts that can affect their health.
Finally, a visit is made to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) of the municipality to see its operation.
"We are very proud that this work we have been doing among our young people has a recognition of this caliber," says the mayor Isabel María Zapata, who stresses the importance of raising awareness among young people about aspects such as this one.
