Four archaeological sites Cotillas Towers, closer to being declared BIC (28/10/2010)

The Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is well advanced processing for declaring and inventory as a Cultural (BIC), a total of four archaeological sites in the municipality of Las Torres de Cotillas .

These are of Cotillas, the potter's field, The Penet and the Barrio de San Pedro, these two recent projects for which the said Directorate General has open public reporting periods to continue the processing of BIC statement.

"For months we are carrying out the process of incorporating the inventory of regional heritage and archaeological sites protected these four sites that I treasured the most glorious historical past of the town," said local Councillor for Culture, Domingo Cava.

The oldest of these archaeological sites is the potter's field, a hill located about 200 meters from the banks of the River Segura which meets one of the best examples of the Iberian culture Argaric in the Region of Murcia.

A statement that tested both rectangular houses discovered as ceramics, domestic mills produced in granite, axes, arrowheads, flint knives and symbols brought to light in the various surveys undertaken.

From the Roman era

In addition, deposits of Cotillas and the District of San Pedro harbor remnants of the Roman (primarily springs and pottery such as amphorae) and Muslim (traces of civil architecture and pottery also.)

"These sites are located on the right bank of Thad and are nuclei originating from the human population of the municipality Torreño" says Cava.

More recent dating would be the fourth archaeological site Cotillas Towers, Las Penet.

Located in the neighborhood of La Florida, along the same river Mula River, about two meters retains a network of water channels (water), built in 1575 boulders with mortar of lime and bricks locked and, as pointed expert studies, would have a foundation built in Islamic dates.
